The value returned shall be used to determine if an object is lexicographically greater than, lesser than or equal to another object. .SH RETURN VALUE The .BR memcmp () function shall return an integer greater than, equal to, or lesser than 0, if the object pointed to by .I s1 is greater than, equal to, or lesser than the object pointed to by .IR s2 , respectively. .SH STANDARDS ISO/IEC 9899:1999 Section 7.21.4.1
