.TH SDAOE 3 .SH NAME sdaoe \- ATA-over-Ethernet (AoE) storage device interface .SH SYNOPSIS .nf .B bind -a #S /dev .BI "echo config switch on spec " l " type aoe//dev/aoe/" shelf\fB.\fPslot " >/dev/sdctl" .BI "echo config switch off spec " l " >/dev/sdctl" .sp 0.3v .BI /dev/sd l 0/ctl .BI /dev/sd l 0/raw .BI /dev/sd l 0/data \&... .sp 0.3v .fi .B addaoe .I letter .I unit .SH DESCRIPTION .I Sdaoe has a few quirks because network-attached storage can't be enumerated as directly-attached storage can. The default first controller letter for AoE devices is .LR e . Each .B sdaoe device must be configured explicitly. .PP .I Addaoe packages up the .L "switch on" invocation as an .I rc script. .PP To boot from an AoE root, the .B sd device must be configured on boot by either PXE booting or booting from directly-attached storage and adding two configuration lines to .IR plan9.ini (8) for .BR aoeif , listing the names of the Ethernet interface(s) to use, and .BI aoedev= letter !#æ/aoe/ lun. .SH EXAMPLES To configure target (LUN) .B 42.0 on .BR #S/sde0 , .IP .EX echo config switch on spec e type aoe//dev/aoe/42.0 >/dev/sdctl .EE .PP To turn this device off, .IP .EX echo config switch off spec e >/dev/sdctl .EE .PP To boot using target .B 42.0 as .B #S/sde0 and as root, over Ethernet interfaces 0 and 1, .IP .EX aoeif=ether0 ether1 aoedev=e!42.0 .EE .SH SOURCE .B /sys/src/9/port/sdaoe.c .SH SEE ALSO .\" .IR vblade (1), .IR aoe (3), .IR sd (3), .\" .IR cec (8), .IR snoopy (8) .SH BUGS It is not currently possible to boot from an AoE target without an external bootstrap like PXE.
